Star Wars Adventures the Clone Wars Battle Tales #1 is published by IDW comics and written by Michael Moreci. The art was done by Derek Charm, Arianna Florean and Mario Del Pennino. The colors where done by Luis Antonio Delgado and Velentina Taddeo.
Let me just start by saying that I love the story of this comic. Sure, it is a random battle in a random planet during the clone wars. You might even be thinking that the clone wars is a beaten dead horse. I urge you to reconsider and understand just how tragic and impactful the clone wars was on the galaxy that Star Wars exist in.
This story does a great job of showing you just how dedicated Anakin Skywalker was to his clone troopers. How Anakin would always go back for his men and treat them as people and not just clones. This is in stark contrast to the Darth Vader that we all know. A Darth Vader who would kill an officer or troop for displeasing him. This story is by no means intricate or complicated, but it does a lot with very little. It shows us just how far the fall to the dark side was. I appreciate its simplicity. I think it is a good start for the stories that are to come. We get a good sense of the type of book this will be into the future.
The artwork is great. It is a mix between what you see in the clone wars series and the old clone wars shorts that originally air before Episode III hit theaters. The colors are well done, everything comes alive on the page. Each panel is easy to follow and the action in those panels looks great.
Overall, I very much enjoyed this comic for what it is. I was also able to appreciate the greater context and like that we are seeing a great contrast in Anakin VS Darth Vader. I give Star Wars Adventures the Clone Wars Battle Tales #1 8 capes out of 10.
